What the lunar nodes are

The lunar nodes are mathematical points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic. The North Node and South Node are always opposite. Astrology treats them as a developmental axis.

The South Node symbolizes familiar strategies, inherited patterns, practiced abilities, and tendencies that can become overused. The North Node describes qualities and experiences that support growth but may initially feel less automatic.

Avoid simplistic interpretations

The South Node is not something to abandon, and the North Node is not a command to become the opposite of yourself. Growth comes from using South Node competence in service of North Node development.

A person with a Capricorn South Node and Cancer North Node does not need to reject discipline. They may need to balance competence with vulnerability, care, belonging, and emotional responsiveness.

Eclipses near natal nodes or nodal rulers can coincide with turning points, but they should be interpreted with the full chart and real-world context.
